Composio alternatives: 5 picks for business-data agents
Choose a Composio alternative for your workload. Compare Combined, Nango, Pipedream Connect, Arcade and Paragon, with a migration checklist and evaluation worksheet.
Combined is our first choice among Composio alternatives for recurring questions across CRM, billing and support: it manages the business datasets and gives your agent read-only SQL. Choose Nango for integration logic you control, Pipedream Connect for embedded app operations, Arcade for custom authorized tools, or Paragon for a broader integration experience. Match the replacement to the work your agent must finish.
Which Composio alternative should you evaluate first?
Start with Combined if your agent needs to answer “Which customers have open deals, paid invoices and unresolved support cases?” You get managed ingestion, storage, schema discovery and SQL over the Sources you grant. The agent can calculate an answer across apps instead of rebuilding a data collection workflow for each question.
Composio is built around sessions that bring app authentication, discovery and execution together. If you already use it, decide which part you want to replace. A better data layer can solve the reporting workload while your existing action tools keep handling follow-ups. See its session architecture and our Combined versus Composio comparison.
| Alternative | Choose it for | The decision your team still owns |
|---|---|---|
| 1. Combined | Managed business datasets and repeatable SQL answers across apps. | Required fields, Source grants, customer mapping and metric definitions. |
| 2. Nango | Custom integration functions, syncs and agent tools. | Provider logic, record consumption and the downstream data application. |
| 3. Pipedream Connect | Embedded connections, API operations and workflows. | User/account selection and the application's orchestration and data model. |
| 4. Arcade | Tools with explicit user authorization, including custom tools. | Tool behavior, appropriate scopes and business approval for writes. |
| 5. Paragon | Agent tools, embedded workflows and supported managed syncs. | Which products and objects cover the app's integration and analysis requirements. |
This is Combined's shortlist for teams delivering business-data agents. The product notes below link to current vendor documentation. Move the specialist for your workload higher when actions, custom connector logic or an embedded workflow builder are the main deliverable.
1. Combined: our recommendation for repeatable business-data answers
Choose Combined when the output is a customer brief, pipeline calculation, billing reconciliation or operational report that your team will ask for again. Connect the applications, sync the selected records and give your existing agent access. Combined manages the ingestion and storage path and exposes six read-only MCP tools for discovering datasets, querying SQL, checking freshness and finding text.
The practical advantage is a reusable query surface. Your agent can inspect the actual fields, aggregate each dataset and join the results in SQL. You define what “paid,” “open” or “active” means, and maintain the customer-ID mapping between systems. Read the MCP tools and Source-grant documentation and SQL guide.
For a concrete starting point, follow our HubSpot–Stripe worked example. It shows why two deals joined directly to two invoices can double both totals, and supplies the query that aggregates before joining. The answer uses selected synced data; check timestamps and coverage before relying on it.
Combined's 1,125 connectors include connections generated through desktop computer use. Check the connection route, readiness and required datasets for your apps. For task creation or other writes, keep an appropriate action tool alongside Combined's read-only analysis.
Plan your first business-data question, or start with an initial 5 million MAR without a card.
2. Nango: integration behavior your engineers control
Choose Nango when a provider's custom fields, filters, events or synchronization rules are part of your product. You can start from templates or deploy TypeScript functions. Nango provides the integration runtime, including credentials, retries and logs; your team controls the provider-specific behavior. Nango Functions.
Nango also has agent sessions with MCP tool search and execution. For replicated data, its records cache supplies changes to your application. Evaluate the downstream storage, customer mapping and query interface you intend to use. Choose Combined when you want that managed business-data query path ready for the agent. See Combined versus Nango.
3. Pipedream Connect: embedded connections and app operations
Choose Pipedream Connect when your application needs users to authorize accounts and then run prebuilt operations, custom API requests or workflows. Its documented options include managed authentication, MCP, tools and triggers, an authenticated proxy, and the workflow builder. That gives a product team several ways to expose integration behavior behind its own interface. Pipedream Connect overview.
Evaluate the path from your application's user ID to the intended connected account, including users with two accounts at the same provider. For ongoing analysis, also decide where records are maintained and how your agent queries across them. Combined is our recommendation when that maintained query surface is the deliverable. The Pipedream Connect comparison follows the ownership of both paths.
4. Arcade: user authorization for the tools you need
Choose Arcade when your agent needs operations tied to a particular user's authorization. Arcade's tool flow checks or requests authorization and executes with that user's access. It supports OAuth, API keys and user tokens. Custom tools can declare their authorization provider and required scopes. Authorized tool calling, custom tool authorization.
A useful trial is one operation with a missing scope, a completed authorization and a successful result for the correct account. Define any business approval for writes separately from the user's service authorization. For a recurring question across CRM and billing records, use Combined for the analytical dataset and consider Arcade for the subsequent authorized operation.
5. Paragon: tools, workflows and managed ingestion
Choose Paragon when your roadmap combines agent tools, customer-facing workflow features and connected data. ActionKit exposes tools and triggers through APIs or MCP. Its list/search operations share filtering conventions, and dynamic fields can be refreshed for the connected user.
Paragon's separate Managed Sync product provides ingestion, normalized objects, change notifications and permission APIs for supported integrations. Include those capabilities in your evaluation, then identify the storage and analytical query experience your application will supply. For a ready managed SQL path to your existing agent, start with Combined. See Combined versus Paragon for the complete data-layer decision.
Keep Composio, replace a workload, or use both?
Keep a working Composio implementation when your agents already execute the right app operations for the right users. Adding CRM-and-billing analysis does not require replacing those operations. A practical combination is Combined for the calculation and Composio for an approved follow-up on the resulting customer IDs.
| Current situation | Recommended next step |
|---|---|
| Useful actions, but repeated reports require new exports | Add Combined for the reporting dataset and preserve the useful actions. |
| The product needs provider-specific sync behavior | Evaluate Nango's templates and custom functions against that exact behavior. |
| The connection flow and embedded workflow builder are the product | Evaluate Pipedream Connect and Paragon on the complete customer journey. |
| Custom operations need user-specific authorization | Evaluate Arcade with the required tools, scopes and account identities. |
If Composio and Nango are your final two candidates, use the dedicated Composio versus Nango decision guide. It compares both session interfaces and follows the same business question through their different data paths.
What to inventory before moving from Composio
Inventory one complete workload before moving an entire catalog. Use the platform evaluation worksheet to record these five things:
- Who connects which account. Record the user or organization, provider account and required scopes. Plan authorization in the replacement. Composio's connected-account inventory describes authentication state; it is not an export of CRM records or a portable provider token.
- Which operations matter. Name the exact tools and required inputs/outputs. Separate reading records, calculating a result and changing an application record.
- Which data the answer requires. List objects, fields, history, deleted records and pagination. A successful call returning 100 contacts does not prove you retrieved every qualifying one.
- Where durable state belongs. Decide who stores the records, cursor, customer mapping and report definition. For Combined, connect the required Sources and confirm the selected datasets and sync.
- How to cut over. Run the same read-only question on a bounded test dataset, reconcile the result, then switch that workload. Keep any existing write workflow separate until its replacement is verified in an authorized test account.
Composio's account lifecycle documentation explains the credential boundary. Preserve an explicit mapping between your own customer identities and each replacement's new connections; do not assume connection IDs transfer.
Make the shortlist prove one useful answer
Use “open pipeline and paid invoices by company and currency” as the first acceptance question. Pick Combined plus the one alternative that best fits your implementation requirements. Give both the same allowed records, time window and customer mapping. Record the extra components and code each path needs.
- Include several deals and invoices for one customer to expose duplicated totals.
- Keep a customer with no matching payment visible, and explain any missing mapping.
- Retain separate currencies and exact payment-date bounds.
- Capture which source data was available and how fresh it was.
- Repeat the question after a controlled source change, with a defined freshness requirement.
The existing SQL fixture lets you inspect the arithmetic locally with synthetic records. The worked tutorial explains how to adapt the calculation to discovered schemas. This is an evaluation procedure, not a claim that every shortlisted vendor has run this test.
For repeatable business questions, start with Combined. Use the broader agent-tool platform ranking if you also need an action layer, and the free freshness checker to turn dataset timestamps into a concrete answer policy.
